When Confidence Is Quiet: The Hidden Battle Behind Self-Assuredness
In this episode, two 16-year-olds from the She Empowers program joined Lunch Time Conversations for an honest conversation. They spoke about walking into spaces where others have the newest technology—and you don’t. About watching certain students get highlighted for grades or achievements—while your own strengths feel overlooked. No complaints. No performance. Just the reality many young people live with. That’s where this conversation began.

Insights from the show
1. Comparison challenges confidence more than failure
It wasn’t mistakes that shook them most—it was comparison.
What others have.
Who others are praised for being.
Who gets chosen.
The conversation revealed how self-assuredness slowly weakens when worth becomes tied to visibility instead of identity.
2. Resources can quietly shape how young people see themselves
One teen spoke about technology—not having the same devices, tools, or access.
The discussion went deeper than equipment.
It explored the inner message that often forms:
“Maybe I’m behind.”
“Maybe I don’t belong in certain rooms.”
The hosts reminded listeners of a powerful truth:
Circumstances should never become conclusions about your value.
3. Being overlooked does not mean you lack purpose
The youth reflected on how favor is often shown through grades or titles, while other gifts remain unseen.
The show reframed success as diversity of strength—leadership, creativity, compassion, resilience, insight.
Confidence grows when young people learn to honor their form of excellence.
Short reflection
Many young people are not insecure because they are weak.
They are unsure because they are still discovering language for who they are.
This episode wasn’t about fixing youth.
It was about hearing them.
And being heard is often where confidence begins to return.
